On September 6, 2013, the Housing Trust celebrated the grand opening of its most recent development, this time in Brandon. The Shirley Farr House and Erastus Thayer House are open for occupancy. The Governor, local politicians, funders, Brandon residents, and Housing Trust friends celebrated with a tour and remarks. The Housing Trust of Rutland County embarked on a cutting edge national pilot project to demonstrate that existing obsolete buildings such as an abandoned school can be repurposed for affordable housing while preserving the historic features of the building, and in this case achieving the highest level of long-term energy savings. This effort proved most successful and was featured in the Affordable Housing Finance article featuring a national trend to repurpose obsolete school buildings.
