Dear Friends,

On behalf of the Board of Directors and Staff of the Housing Trust of Rutland County I am proud to present to you our 2023 Annual Report.  Within these pages we are exited to share with you our accomplishments over the last year and our plans for the future.

The current housing shortage continues to be challenging locally, statewide and throughout the country. For more than 30 years the Housing Trust of Rutland County has developed, maintained, and managed housing that is sustainable, supportive and affordable.  We understand having access to an affordable and safe place to live provides families and individuals with a foundation for not only improving their general well-being, but also contributes to their economic health and quality of life.

In 2023 the Housing Trust of Rutland County laid the groundwork for the creation of nearly 100 new and rehabilitated housing units across three development projects. These developments will offer a place for people to find stability in a place they can call home. These projects will provide more than just home, but they will also bring economic benefits to the broader community in the form of employment, expanded tax base and strengthening the neighborhoods where we build.

We are excited to be in the midst of a merger with NeighborWorks of Western Vermont. This merger will strengthen the ability to make change and expand available services.  As a merged organization we will increase our ability to be a catalyst for change, cultivating an economically sustainable community where everyone can thrive. In March of this year the Boards of Directors of both organizations voted unanimously to move forward with the merger which is expected to officially commence in July 2024.

With the collective spirit and determination of our donors, Board of Directors, residents, employees, and community partners, I am confident that we will create a future where everyone has access to safe, affordable, and sustainable housing and where our entire community can flourish.

Sincerely,

Mary Cohen, Executive Director
Housing Trust of Rutland County
