Fall Message From Mary-HTRC & NWWVT Investigate Merger
Hello HTRC Friends,
We hope this finds you enjoying the beautiful fall and all the season has to offer!
We want to share with you that the Housing Trust of Rutland County is exploring a merger with a like-minded organization, NeighborWorks of Western Vermont. For many reasons, the combining of the Housing Trust, an entity that develops, owns and manages a portfolio of about 400 affordable rental units, with NWWVT, an organization that has many programs that revolve around sustainable homeownership, makes just plain sense. As we explore this opportunity and analyze the operational and financial aspects of combining, we continue to ask ourselves “can we serve our communities better through combining our programs and services”. We believe the answer is wholeheartedly, yes.
We have engaged both staffs as well as our boards with transparency and relevant information throughout the process. We have been and will continue to work diligently on this exploration and will conclude with a vote from both organizations in December. If, at the end of the year, this decision makes sense, a new organization will emerge in the latter part of 2024.
The HTRC staff continues to do great work housing our friends and relatives. We take pride in providing homes to some of the most vulnerable in our communities and work with fantastic partners to meet the ongoing supportive needs of our residents to ensure sustainable housing. This isn’t always easy, but the compassion and empathy of every HTRC staff member is unwavering. They are truly everyday heroes!
